Handwork & Smocking

Rachel learnt to sew at school, and pursued both needlework and knitting as a hobby which she still enjoys today. She believes very strongly that ‘the act of making and creating is deeply satisfying, life affirming and rewarding’, and has always been proud of being able to work with her hands

Rachel often works on hand embroidery, smocking and knitting designs for her collections. She feels passionately about hand smocking, as it has traditionally been used in baby and toddler clothes and girl’s dresses since the twenties, and became particularly fashionable for childrenswear in the fifties & sixties, era’s in children’s fashion that she loves
