Yellow: The Colour of Spring

The intense yellow colour of daffodils makes me feel happy, when I see the arrival of their cheerful blooms as one of the first flowers of spring. I love their golden intensity which has such strength of colour when much around us is still grey. Whether daffodils arrive in sunshine or push through snow, they come with the promised of the warmer days ahead.
My husband and I restored a wood in our garden and planted 10,000 daffodils by hand.

A french daffodil wallpaper from the 1900's, painted in gouache on paper, shows an assortment of yellows from pale to dark orange. It's stylised paintwork is one of my archive favourites.

I like to walk around my garden and pick flowers for the house. The new Spring season gives me energy and enthusiasm. It makes me want to 'dive in' like this 'Coney Island Girl' illustration by H. King from the twenties.
Our leopard damask shift dress in two shades of yellow is new for Spring, and it's sixties A-line shape and cute ivory peter pan collar reminds me of dresses I wore as a child.
Me and my husband, Daniel, all dressed up in yellow for a Spring wedding - Happy Memories!
